Emergency Training Drill and Our Commitment to Safety Education
Paraco Gas hosted an Emergency Response Training and Railroad Tank Car Presentation on Saturday, April 22, 2006 with its lead instructor, Mike DiGiorgio. With a confirmed class attendee list of over 125 people, it was the largest event that the propane industry/Paraco Gas Corp. has ever offered to emergency responders and the fire services in the NY Metropolitan Area. Attendees included several LI fire departments along with many first response units including local EMS, OEM and OFP units as well as the New York Atlantic Railroad, Federal Railroad, Federal DOT and Suffolk County Hazmat Team.
The training included general emergency procedures and tactical response guidelines such as the proper response procedures to be used in a propane-related emergency situation. On Saturday afternoon, the entire group took part in a full-scale live drill simulation railcar leak at the Paraco Riverhead facility. This realistic drill put the participants in a staged emergency situation and showed them exactly what to expect when an emergency occurs -- from initial emergency call response and command center setup to emergency tactics and EMS measures. Attendees learned what procedures to follow to ensure that the situation is controlled properly.
The New President of the Propane Gas Defense Association
Congratulations to Mike DiGiorgio, Paraco's Director of Transportation and Safety, who was recently named President of the Propane Gas Defense Association (PGDA).
The PGDA is an educational and charitable organization of approximately 225 members whose main objective is to exchange ideas and educate industry membership on safety and compliance-related issues. Membership includes representatives from propane gas companies, insurance companies, attorneys, fire investigators and experts who work together to promote safe and compliant business practices.
Paraco has always had a strong commitment to safety. Mike's appointment as President of the PGDA puts us at the forefront of new and innovative safety practices. That's good news for everyone.
